ABOUT US
We’re a close-knit team from a variety of backgrounds who care deeply about food, drink, and doing good work.
Together we mix different skills and perspectives, but always with the same goal: making ideas that make a difference.

I joined Wood for Trees in 2024 as a graduate from Nottingham Trent University.
I'm excited to be working with household names, researching, developing ideas and seeing the process behind some of my favourite products.
New to Bristol, I'm a big fan of the city and its nightlife, King St. with friends after work is a highlight! Favourite food is a massively overcomplicated ramen, using every ingredient I have in my house.
Emily Foss

Hey, I'm Pen! Wood for Trees' Graphic Designer and Illustrator.
I bring our ideas to life with visual storytelling, identity, packaging design and illustration, always inspired by what's new and exciting in food and drink.
Out of office, I trade pixels for peaks, enjoying coffee fuelled hikes, wild swims, mountainside whiskies and burning campfire snacks.

Hi! I'm Maedhbh, I've been part of Wood for Trees for nearly a decade, bringing my background in Bristol's vibrant food scene, which instilled a love of great produce and people.
I get excited about and how good food, community and wellbeing go hand in hand.
When I'm not working, I'm usually out adventuring - swimming, hiking, travelling, digging at my allotment, or in one of Bristol's many brilliant restaurants, bakeries or cafés.
Maedhbh McCarthy

I began my career in design & innovation at Mars Wrigley, helping evolve some of the world's most iconic chocolate brands (a dream for a lifelong chocoholic!).
This year I joined Wood for Trees to keep doing what I love: helping teams make sense of messy challenges and uncover ideas worth chasing.
Outside work, I love being outdoors with my dog Elvis, enjoying long walks, fresh air, and usually a pint of cider and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps along the way.

I've been part of this team for almost 9 years. Prior to joining was one of our first interns, and now Bristol is home.
I’m hooked on uncovering what’s next; developing innovative solutions grounded in what truly matters to people, and genuinely useful in the real world.
Outside the studio, I'm embracing first-time fatherhood and the beautiful chaos that comes with it; filling any spare moment with house renovations or watching my beloved Charlton Athletic with a cold pint.
Jacob Stokes

I moved to Bristol to join WfT when it was just a year old. Typically, my focus is helping project teams to make sense of and extract most value from their existing knowledge estate.
With a background in psychology & advertising before retraining in product design, I'm especially interested in understanding people's needs, and helping organisations to act with purpose.
Outside of work, you'll find me drawing, parenting or – ideally – both.
Rachel Turner

In 2013, I took a leap of faith and joined the team as the first employee, and I've loved our journey from start-up to the agency we are today.
Whether I'm running focus groups in Chicago or product testing in Chennai, I love helping clients understand how their customers think, feel, and behave.
In my spare time, I love travelling and eating like the locals, reading, and exploring the countryside with our rescue dog, Annie.
Oli Johnston

I joined Wood for Trees on its 1st birthday as an industrial designer turned food-and-drink obsessive, fascinated by how what we eat says about who we are, our global cultures and quirks.
I love making sense of big, tricky, human problems with curiosity, creativity and a dollop of Yorkshire straight-talk.
When I'm not at my desk I'm taking photos, eating something irresponsibly exotic, or chasing virtual lap times.
Ed Hope

I joined Sue to help run the company in 2014 after 16 years as a modelmaker and visualiser working in design consultancy.
I split my time between managing finance and operations and bringing ideas to life when projects need it.
Out of work, I'm constantly working my way through a tower of books, always have a sculpture or two on the go, and trying to establish a wildflower meadow in a boggy field.
Seb Gwyther

I set up Wood for Trees in 2013 after a career spanning corporate design & innovation management and consulting roles.
My focus is on helping clients navigate the front end of innovation, building the right approach to tackle challenges and facilitating the journey.
In any spare moment, you'll find me lacing up to hit the trails. When I can't run (apparently, it's important to rest occasionally), I love to bake and grow veg.
